“Walang Iwanan”, Gawad Kalinga Canada’s Virtual Forum, 7 October 2021

12 October 2021, Toronto, Ontario – The Gawad Kalinga (GK) Canada chaired by Mr. Alfredo “Pidoy” Pacis conducted the online Town Hall Forum “Walang Iwanan” on Thursday, 7 October 2021, from 8:00 pm to 9:30 pm (Toronto time).

Consul General Orontes V. Castro attended the Town Hall forum and lauded the organization for its efforts in helping fight poverty. He noted GK Canada’s partnership with Philippine-based Gawad Kalinga Community Development Foundation, Inc. (GKCDFI) to be the implementor and administrator of GKCDFI’s poverty alleviation projects.

GK Canada was established on 6 October 2010 as a federally incorporated not-for-profit corporation with a charitable registration number. Its main objective is to build sustainable GK communities and villages through the provision of housing and socio-economic community development programs. Mr. Jose Querubin, of GK Canada, presented the activities of the organization such as the Kusina ng Kalinga Feeding Program for children, Bayan Anihan Program for farmers, School for Experiential and Entrepreneurial Development (SEED Philippines) project for future agri-entrepreneurs, and the KLIK Mobile Education (KLIK ME) project for school dropouts, among others.

The highlight of the Town Hall Forum was the discussion and update presented by Guest Speakers Mr. Luis Oquinena and Mr. Dan Bercasio, Chairman and Executive Director, respectively of Gawad Kalinga. Mr. Oquinena and Mr. Bercasio mentioned the effects of the COVID 19 pandemic on the Philippine economy and discussed the ways by which Gawad Kalinga is addressing the problems of homelessness and poverty in the Philippines, which inspired the GK Canada officers and members. – END
