09 March 2020, Toronto, Canada. – The Philippine Consulate General in Toronto celebrated National Women’s Month and International Women’s Day during its flag-raising ceremony held on 9 March 2020.
Prior to the flag-raising and Panunumpa sa Watawat ceremonies, Consul General Orontes V. Castro gave brief remarks on the significance of the International Women’s Day and why the latter should be celebrated all year-round because of the many contributions of women to society. He highlighted that the Philippines ranked 8th out of 149 countries in terms of gender-equality in the World Economic Forum’s 2018 Global Gender Gap Report. He also mentioned that the Consulate has a Special Counter for Pregnant Women, the Senior Citizens and Disabled Persons.
Lastly, he called on the women officers and staff of the Consulate, as well as the women clientele to come forward and be presented to those who were present during the flag raising ceremony. The Magna Carta of Women brochure was also distributed to Post’s clientele, and the streamers that Post had specially made to commemorate the celebration were displayed prominently in the Consular area.
