The Philippines ranked eighth among the top medical tourism destinations in the world in 2015, ahead of Japan and France, according to the International Healthcare Research Center and the Medical Tourism Association (MTA).
Latest data available showed that medical tourism earned for the Philippines roughly $145 million, P6.7 billion in 2014, more than double that of 2013’s $66 million (P3.03 billion). Clients of the Philippines for medical tourism come from East Asia (China, Japan, Korea, Taiwan), Sri Lanka, the Pacific Islands (Guam, Palau, Marshall Islands and Micronesia), Australia, North and South America, Europe and UK, and the Gulf States.
