Officers of the Philippine Consulate General in Toronto with Makati City officials

2 July 2024 – Two delegations from the Philippines recently visited the Philippine Consulate General in Toronto.

City of Makati officials led by City Director Cherry P. Canda-Melodias called on Consul General Angelica Escalona on 28 June. They were in Toronto as part of a customized program of the Asian Institute of Management (AIM) for the City of Makati on project development and management for climate disaster resilience. The Makati officials shared that they appreciate the whole-of-city approach being taken by Toronto to protect the environment and prepare for disasters, which includes the active participation of its citizens.

On 2 July, a Joint Assessment Team composed of officials from the Department of Migrant Workers (DMW), Department of Budget and Management (DBM) and the Philippine Senate and House of Representatives led by DMW Assistant Secretary Violeta Illescas called on Consul General Escalona before starting their assessment of the Migrant Workers Office (MWO)-Toronto. Consulate officials took the opportunity to discuss with the Joint Assessment Team issues that are important to Filipinos in the Consulate’s jurisdiction. Both sides also discussed developments in the Philippines of relevance to Overseas Filipinos.
