Consul General Angelica Escalona greeting kababayans during the Filipino Salu-Salo
30 June 2024 – Philippine Consul General in Toronto Angelica Escalona and Cultural Officer Maricel Samonte joined around 200 kababayans in Leamington, Ontario at a “Filipino Salu-Salo” in celebration of Philippine Independence Day. The event, which was organized by the non-profit Migrant Worker Community Program (MWCP), was held at St. Michael’s Parish. Based on records of the Migrant Workers Office (MWO)-Toronto, there is an increasing number of Filipino workers in Leamington, most of whom are working in the agriculture sector. Consul General Escalona conveyed the readiness of the Philippine Consulate General and MWO-Toronto to assist Filipino workers and informed them that a consular outreach mission for the Windsor-Leamington area will be conducted in September 2024.
