Toronto PCG joins the Filipino Canadian Community in the Commemoration of the 126th Anniversary of the Martyrdom of Dr. Jose P. Rizal

Toronto, 30 December 2022 – The Philippine Consulate General in Toronto joins today the Filipino Canadian Community in commemorating the 126th Anniversary of the Martyrdom of Dr. Jose P. Rizal. Consul General Orontes V. Castro, the Knights of Rizal- Central Canada Region, represented by its Commander Dr. Romulo Sinajon, and other leaders of the Filipino Canadian Community organizations came together in placing wreaths at the bust of Dr. Jose P. Rizal in Earl Bales Park, Bathurst, North York, Ontario, Canada.
During the brief program at the park, Consul General Castro read the Message of the Honorable Enrique A. Manalo, Secretary of Foreign Affairs, Republic of the Philippines. Honorable James Pasternak, Councillor, Ward 6, City of Toronto, delivered brief remarks extolling the virtues of Dr. Rizal.
The Program for the event was continued at the Community Centre, Earl Bales Park.
Consul General Orontes V. Castro accompanied by the staff of the Philippine Consulate General in Toronto placed a wreath in the morning at the bust of Dr Jose P. Rizal at Sentro Rizal-Toronto, the cultural arm of the Consulate General.
Unveiling of the Historical Marker at Dr. Jose P. Rizal Monument
On 22 June 2022, the Historical Marker from the National Historical Commission of the Philippines (NHCP) was officially unveiled at the bust of Dr. Jose P. Rizal in Earl Bales Park, Bathurst, North York, Ontario, by Consul Orontes V. Castro, City of Toronto Councillor James Pasternak, Dr. Romulo Sinajon of the Knights of Rizal Central Canada Region, and the representatives from the NHCP – Deputy Executive Director Carminda R. Arevalo and Project Development Officer Eleonor B. Samonte. The unveiling of the historical marker was witnessed by the Knights of Rizal-Central Canada Region and leaders of the Filipino Canadian Community. With the unveiling of the marker, the monument dedicated to Dr. Rizal at Earl Bales Park is now official included in the National Registry of Historic Sites and Structures in the Philippines. END-
