11 February 2022, Toronto – The Philippine Consulate General in Toronto informs that another official from the Progressive Conservative Party of Ontario for Mississauga-Erin Mills, Member of Provincial Parliament (MPP) for Mississauga-Erin Mills, Honourable Sheref Sabawy called on and met with Consul General Orontes V. Castro on Friday, 11 February 2022. MPP Sabawy currently serves as Parliamentary Assistant to the Minister of Heritage, Sport, Tourism and Culture Industries, as well as Member of the Standing Committee on General Government.
MPP Sabawy emphasized the crucial part of the Filipino community in the Canadian mosaic and added that he has personally tried Filipino food, heard the music and witnessed the dances of the Philippines. Being also an immigrant in Canada, he believes the strong contribution of Filipino immigrants to Canadian economy.
The meeting, which was covered by OMNI News, was an avenue for the Canadian official to consult on programs and activities for the growing Filipino Canadian community, and for the Consulate General to further discussions on how to facilitate the recognition of credentials of internationally educated Filipino nurses and other Filipino professionals so they can practice their profession in Canada.
Consul General assured the Filipino community that the Consulate General is pleased to be a link and an instrument in conveying their requests and appeals, recommendations and suggestions to the political leadership in the Province of Ontario.
